About The Material These Picks Are Made From:

Wooden plectrums have been used traditionally throughout the world since the dawn of string instruments millennia ago.

Mango Wood comes from a species of tree found natively in India and other parts of Asia, although it has been introduced to other warm regions, and is the source of the Mango fruit. Mango Wood is part of the Anacardiaceae family, which interestingly also includes pistachios and cashews.
Although it has a long history of use in Asia, Mango Wood is becoming an increasingly popular wood globally and is known for its beautiful and distinctive grain, as well as its durability. Mango is classified as a hardwood, which means it is a strong and lost lasting wood, comparable in strength to Ash or Oak. Mango trees grow in warm environments, can reach heights of up to 100 feet, and usually reach full maturity within only 10-15 years, while many hardwoods take 50-75 years or more to fully mature. Mango trees also have multiple uses, primarily fruit production during the prime of the trees life, and then seeing a second life being used for the timber. Because of the rapid maturation and the dual purpose compared to many trees used for timber, it is considered a very environmentally friendly and sustainable species of wood. Mango Wood has traditionally been used for a wide variety of purposes including musical instruments, tools, furniture, decorative wood objects, and more.
